We are failing at commercialization of ideas across the board in all industries, and in all sizes and ages of companies
Here is Canada’s problem: We are failing at commercialization of ideas across the board in all industries, and in all sizes and ages of companies. Only 2.2 per cent of our firms even engage with innovation, and business R&D spending has been systemically declining for 15 years. If there is a global gold medal in innovation failure, then sure, Canada “owns the podium.”

James Van Leeuwen and his comrades have created a space for teens to come and learn coding, robotics and other skills not taught in schools. Their hope is to create an innovative drive at a grassroots level, but progress is slow in small-town Alberta.
Some entrepreneurs in Pincher Creek, Alta. have their sights set on creating #innovation in their community, the only thing they believe will keep their town and region viable as the economy in southern #Alberta continues to change.

Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) has some of the best minds on the planet working on technologies to lower emissions
It’s really exciting to see Canada and Alberta taking a global leadership role in developing technologies and innovations the world needs to lower emissions. With the federal and provincial governments support for the ACCTC, and through collaboration with Shepard Energy Centre, our NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE finalists are one step closer to reimagining CO2,” said Dr. Dan Wicklum, chief executive, COSIA.

At a time when B.C.’s politicians are considering flooding the Peace Valley for the Site C hydroelectric dam, a new project by the Canadian Geothermal Energy Association says the province could be sitting on a figurative gold mine of power with low environmental impact. The project used publicly available data to produce a database of maps and supporting information that show all the areas in B.C. that have the potential to produce geothermal energy. The project reports that, using existing technology, the province could produce between 5,500 and 6,600 mega watts of power — enough to power the whole province. Ironically, the information CanGEA used comes mainly from the oil and gas industry, which is required by law to report on things like well depth and temperature.

He’s been in office just a few short months, but Justin Trudeau wants you to know that he’s taking clean tech seriously.
Back in November 2015, just over a month after the election, Canada joined with private sector leaders like Bill Gates and other leading nations — including the United States, India and France — in launching Mission Innovation to accelerate energy innovation worldwide. A few months later, the Liberal government has signalled its commitment to the future of Canada’s clean tech sector once again.
They did some research and predicted with the pipeline we would not have any killer whales left #cdnpoli
