Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek

Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek  | Everest Region Trekking | Scoop.it

Island is one of the famous peaks in Nepal. It is suitable to all beginner climbers and skilled trekkers. The trek to Island Peak initially tracks the main Everest Base Camp Trek route via Dingboche. One can have the same sense of being on top of Mount Everest while standing on the top of Island Peak at 6,189 meters. This peak is situated in Sagarmatha National Park in Himalayan region, Khumbu of eastern Nepal.

The real name of this peak is Imja Tse. It was named as Island Peak by the members of British Mount Everest voyage in 1953 as it seems like Island in a sea of ice while observing from Dingboche. Climbing this peak is challenging and requires a proper physical strength but is a moderately easy one compared to other peaks. The peak is exceptionally glaciated west face rising from Lhotse Glacier. The Peak does not provide a terrifying climb only but also provide the most tremendous scenery of Himalaya in the Khumbu region. As the region touches Tibetan border so the trek to this peak goes through the countryside, where one can submerge in centuries-old Nepalese and Tibetan cultures. The enthralling village of Dingboche and the monasteries, gompas all filled with Buddhist monuments. The villages of stones charm the pathway to the mountain. Climbing Island Peak can be an unbelievable experience for the audacious explores and the perfect summary to full mountainous hiking. Though the track goes through Everest Base Camp the view of Everest is not visible till we reach the main point but other majestic Himalayas like Aba Dablam (6,812 meters), Lhotse (8,516 meters), Mera Peak (6,476 meters) can be observed all the way.

The suitable time for Island Peak climbing is during spring (March to early June) and autumn (September to November). These seasons are also known as busiest seasons for trekking and peak climbing. It doesn't mean climbing is not possible during the rest of the month but the fact is summer invites monsoon rain which leads to the high chance of landslides and avalanches in some places that are difficult in normal time as well. It won't be wrong to say summer is a totally unfavorable season for peak climbing whereas, during April and May, many Everest climbers can be encounter in climbing route so generally for those who are about to experience climbing for the first time we suggest them to plan on Spring season. In autumn weather in Mountains tends to be clear so mainly this season is considered to be the best season for the peak climbing. The foremost thing one should always concern about is the right time for peak climbing. No matter whichever peak you plan for if the selection of right month and season is always necessary especially in case of peak climbing.
