Après avoir consacré un événement aux cryptomonnaies en avril dernier , PwC Luxembourg s’est vu en quelque sorte mis au défi par certains clients: «Pourquoi pas vous?». Le cabinet d’audit et de conseil aux entreprises a donc mené une réflexion et pris rapidement une décision.

En obtenant une licence d’établissement de paiement de la CSSF, la start-up japonaise dont l’antenne européenne est au Luxembourg devient la première plateforme d’échange de bitcoin au monde à être régulée à la fois au Japon, aux États-Unis et en Europe.

C’est une nouvelle qui restera certainement gravée dans la jeune histoire du bitcoin, et plus généralement celle des monnaies virtuelles. La start-up japonaise bitFlyer, qui développe la plus grande plateforme d’échange de bitcoin au monde en matière de transactions, vient d’être officiellement agréée en tant qu’établissement de paiement par le Ministère des Finances suivant l’accord de la Commission de surveillance du secteur financier (CSSF).

Ce sésame lui permet de se lancer à l’assaut du marché européen avec un argument de taille pour rassurer ceux qui sont encore réticents à investir dans cette monnaie virtuelle. Car bitFlyer est désormais régulée non seulement en Europe, mais aussi aux États-Unis, où elle opère depuis novembre, et au Japon, faisant d’elle la plateforme d’échange de bitcoin la plus conforme au monde.

FUNDCHAIN Initiative: Investigating the potential benefit of Blockchain to the Luxembourg fund industry

Scorechain, the Luxembourg-based company has announced today the constitution of an innovative group of 10 key players of the Luxembourg fund industry to explore Blockchain technology’s impact on the asset management industry.

Ten founding members representing major financial institutions including BIL, BNP Paribas, CACEIS, European Fund Administration, HSBC, ING Luxembourg, Pictet, RBC Investor & Treasury Services, Société Générale Bank & Trust, and Professional Services firm PwC Luxembourg have joined forces with Scorechain.

The initiative called Fundchain, began in the summer and explores how Distributed Ledger Technology may help the fund industry improve efficiency and create new business opportunities. For Pierre Gérard, CEO of Scorechain “As any Blockchain initiative the network effect is the main key to success. We aim to move beyond slideware and begin developing prototypes to test their integration within existing infrastructures. We have already identified several use cases in the fund distribution and asset servicing industry that could be interesting topics.”

The first edition of the “Blockchain Bootcamp” will take place on 15-16 April, 2016 in Luxembourg. The event is organized by Luxembourg School of Business and hosted by Arendt & Medernach. This 2-day event will consist of two parts. The first day will open with a morning conference during which a panel of experts will discuss topics relating to the Blockchain technology and its current and potential applications across a variety of industries. Following the conference, participants will engage in a day and a half long workshop, during which they will work in much more details on creating possible prototypes and/or innovative business models related to the Blockchain technology. The participants will be encouraged to think of ways how this technology could help transform their own companies/businesses. -

Der Bitcoin-Hype ist schon Vergangenheit. Was bleibt, ist die Technik, auf der die Kryptowährungen basieren. Doch die Blockchain kann mehr, als nur das Rückgrat einer digitalen Währung zu sein.

Insgesamt gibt es rund 1.500 verschiedene Kryptowährungen, meinte Ravi Jawahar, verantwortlich für das Blockchain-Whitepaper des Luxemburger Instituts für Qualitätssicherung und Normierung Ilnas. Alle funktionieren über eine Blockchain. “Das ist ein Hauptbuch, das es einem Computer-Netzwerk erlaubt, eine gemeinsame Datenbank zu erstellen und weiterzuentwickeln – ohne einer Drittpartei Vertrauen schenken zu müssen”, so das Whitepaper zum Thema Blockchain.

Das Institut hat das Thema ausführlich untersucht und weitere Blockchain-Anwendungen herausgeschält. Einen Punkt haben alle Anwendungen gemein: Es geht darum, Daten chronologisch geordnet zu speichern, ohne dass diese im Nachhinein verändert werden können. Der große Vorteil der Blockchain ist die Transparenz und Nachvollziehbarkeit der Daten, dies hat nicht nur Vorteile für eine Währung, sondern kann auch andere Bereiche revolutionieren.

Scientists at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg have developed an important mathematical algorithm called “Equihash”.

Equihash is a core component for the new cryptocurrency Zcash, which offers more privacy and equality than the famous Bitcoin. Zcash came into operation as an experimental technology for a community-driven digital currency in late 2016.

The Luxembourg based startup has just released a new version of its product Scorechain with new design, new interface, new logo and most importantly, a lot of new features. The online platform offers activity reports and advanced analytics for AML – Anti Money Laundering – and KYT – Know your Transaction – in order to assess risks of Bitcoin movements and provide the needed tools that help its regulation.

Based on innovative data analysis, Scorechain unveils the Scorechain Index: SCx. This brand new feature implementation is able to score Bitcoin addresses and transactions depending on their activity throughout the blockchain. The SCx guides users to define the level of trust they want to give to their counterparts and customers. SCx is a metric between 0 and 100 and is based on manual scoring and automated processing.
