With the official hiking season opening at the beginning of May in the Mullerthal region and across Luxembourg , here's a guide to following path symbols that can sometimes prove difficult to understand while walking.

Luxembourg is often referred to as the “Green Heart of Europe” and it’s easy to see why. With more than 5,000 kilometres dedicated to hiking trails, the landscape of the Grand Duchy boasts one of the densest networks of walking trails in Europe.

The problem? So many routes share trails or cross each other that it can be difficult to recognise each marker and understand which path leads where. Here’s a guide to decoding those signs and getting around the country on foot.
