Grâce à des affiches et des flyers à disposer dans les bars et restaurants, le ministre compte inciter les Luxembourgeois à faire preuve de savoir-vivre. «On ne peut pas tout légiférer. Alourdir la loi, ç’aurait été aller trop loin. C’est juste une question de respect, de vivre-ensemble», estime Lex Delles.

D’autant que les cafés et restaurants ont une vocation sociale, il est donc important de maintenir la clientèle actuelle en insistant sur l’importance de mettre en place des gestes simples.

Cafés and Bistros to become Eligible for Investment Aid

On Wednesday 21 March 2018, at the opening ceremony of Springbreak Luxembourg, Luxembourg's Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, drew a resolutely positive assessment of the strengths and potential of gastronomy and hospitality in Luxembourg.

Stressing the importance for companies from the Horeca sector to invest in their establishments to meet the expectations of a demanding clientele in terms of quality of service, Secretary of State Closener announced that the investments made by cafes and bistros will be in the future and under certain conditions eligible for investment aid, as are investments by restaurant owners, hoteliers and other SMEs.

The draft law on investment aid for SMEs currently in the legislative process and the related regulations will open this new possibility.

16,5 Prozent weniger Umsatz in den Kneipen

Ein weiteres Sorgenkind sind die Cafés, die sich nicht vom Tabakverbot und von der TVA-Regelung erholen. In den letzten drei Jahren ist der Verkauf hier um 16,5 Prozent zurückgegangen, berichtet Generalsekretär François Koepp.

Administrative Vereinfachung ist eine Forderung, die dem gesamten Horeca-Bereich am Herzen liegt. “Ein Hotel mit 20 Zimmern hat kaum Überlebenschancen. Wenn dieses jedoch vergrößern will, steht sich der Staat mit seinen administrativen Hürden selbst im Weg”, bemängelte Rix. In seiner abschließenden Rede gab Arbeitsminister Nicolas Schmit (LSAP) ihm hiermit recht. Besonders in einem kleinen Land müssten solche Dinge eigentlich viel schneller machbar sein. Trotzdem seien Regeln und deren Einhaltung unausweichlich.

The HORESCA federation also insists that this new smoking ban will, in fact, have a financial impact on business.

Statistics put forward by the federation have shown that in countries, which have already introduced a smoking ban in bars and clubs, turnover in these establishments was down by 15 to 30 %.
