Moodle and Web 2.0

Over at the Educause Annual Conference yesterday, Blackboard announced the integration of Microsoft Office 365 office plugins with Moodlerooms for their upcoming December release.

The Office 365 plugins have been available since January of this year, and have been adopted by a number of Moodle platforms (in fact, these plugins are in the top three downloads over the last year). However, what makes this announcement significant is that by offering this service through Moodlerooms, Blackboard will be implementing the largest integration of these plugins to date.

The underlying story for the integration, in Microsoft’s announcement, is to continue “meeting students and faculty where they are at” in an online edu-verse where everyone shows up with their own technology, preferences and expectations.
