Using the 2007 National Apprenticeship Survey (NAS), this research paper estimates the earnings functions of individuals who completed or discontinued a registered apprenticeship program. Controlling for observed demographic, labour market, and employer characteristics correlated with the two apprenticeship states, it finds earnings differences of approximately 20%. The paper also disaggregates apprentices into four groups on the basis of program completion and certification in order to refine the wage comparisons.

The Philippine TVET Qualification and Certification System (PTQCS) is a quality-assured structure used for giving recognition to the attainment of competencies (knowledge, skills, attitudes and values) along the middle-level skilled occupations. It is the process of determining the qualification level of a person and giving recognition to the attainment of competencies in that particular level.

The purpose of this research was to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between apprenticeship completion, certification and outcomes. The main focus was on training and labour market outcomes, with a lesser emphasis on socio/demographic outcomes.

When a trade is designated as a Red Seal Trade, candidates in the trade who meet all eligibility requirements in a given jurisdiction may apply to write the Interprovincial Red Seal examination. If successful, they receive that jurisdiction's journeyperson certificate with a Red Seal endorsement affixed.
